22/03/2009 – Smeaton Grange
By: Daniel Thomson

The third annual Macarthur Inline cup, run in conjunction with the Macarthur Collegians CC annual open cycling criterium races, was won by Peter Thompson. With the withdrawal of Daniel Thomson, winner of the previous two editions, due to the flu, it was certain that a new name would top the results sheet of the 2009 edition of the Macarthur Inline cup. Following a number of surges, a pack of five leading skaters began the final lap together.
Those five skaters were still together as they jumped out of the final hairpin turn and began the 300m drag race to the finish. Lee Mullard took the lead early and was looking good for the win until Peter Thompson surged by with 100m to go. As Lee made an attempt to jump into Peters draft Jourdain Vitiello clipped Lee’s right foot and went down hard, with both Lee and Richard Vitiello being lucky to avoid being caught up in the crash. Across the line it was Peter Thompson, from Lee Mullard and Richard Vitiello. After his crash, Jourdain managed to cross the line in 6th place.

Thanks to the Macarthur Collegians cycling club for their assistance in making this event possible.
